cause/effect

Why did you choose your major or career? I choose to be an ESL instructor for several reasons. I was involved in training and education in another field unrelated to ESL. I wanted to join my interest in teaching with my interest in international studies which was my major in college. My husband and I were living in Puerto Rico at the time, and we were going to be moving to South America. I realized that teaching ESL to adults was the perfect combination of my interests and skills. I love my job!

Session 2- week 4

This week we are writing our cause/effect essay. Tell us about one example of culture shock that you experienced. You can focus on the causes or you could tell us about the effect of culture shock on your experience here. In other words, were you able to overcome it quickly? I remember when I lived in Argentina, I was amazed at how thin everyone was. It was unusual to see someone who was overweight. I guess I had "reverse culture shock" because when we moved back to the U.S. I couldn't believe how many fat people there were. I hadn't noticed this so much before I left the U.S. It was very obvious to me how overweight we must appear to international visitors.

Session 2- week 3

I enjoyed hearing about your well-ingrained habits (if you don't know what ingrained means, look it up at dictionary.com). This week we are beginning our chapter on cause-effect essays. Tuesday, November 4 was an historic day in American history. Based on all you have read and heard, why do you think Barack Obama was elected to the presidency?
