Week 3

It was interesting to read that many of you are concerned about your lack of academic vocabulary to use in your essays. I can definitely include some work with the academic word list (AWL).

By the end of this week, you will be writing a paragraph using clear, descriptive language. I would like for you to describe where you are living now. Describe your surroundings and roommates.

I live in Santa Clara. My apartment is far 15 minutes from SAL building by car.
Where I live has many markets, Korean restaurants, and other conveniences such as citibank, gas station, starbucks. Indeed, there is the Lawrence Expressway near my house. So, we can go to school through it.
My apartment has one bedroom and one bathroom. It is enough to live for I and my wife.
I have the other sexual roommate, my wife. Sometimes, we call each other 'roommate'.
She is a student, also is a household. She can cook very well. We take a food in our home everyday. So, I really expect her cooking everytime. Even she has been gotton pregnant for 7 months, she do all chores really hard.

I live in home stay that is an American family, the house located in Milpitas, it is near Great Mall; from the house to mall only spend 15 minutes by walk, also here is a bus transfer station where you can see many people move from one place to another. Somebody envies me because I can often shop in mall, but I don’t think so. Shopping always waste a lot of time and make my legs getting pain. If I don’t need to buy any necessary, I really don’t want to go there, because there are crowded especially on holiday. I frequently have difference roommates in the home stay; they came from all over the world, but they stayed in U.S time usually not too long. I have a roommate at present that came from Vietnam, she study in Mission College, She is nice and friendly. I remembered when I just arrived in U.S, I didn’t know how to take light rail or bus to go to school, and she is taking me to school. In addition my home stay is really cordial, they treat me like a family, I don’t have any relatives in U.S, and so they like my friend and family. I will never forget them forever.

My sister's home in San Jose where I am living now. it is located at Monterrey and Bramham St. I often drive car to the SAL about 15 minutes. There are six people to live in my sister home. The home is very big and quiet. In home front has two parking spaces, and a small garden to plant some grass and plants. The home behind is a middle game yard, a tiny swimming pool, and a small garden to plant some flower trees. I usually do exercise and meditation in there every morning after I get up. Sometimes my sister and I go waking around our home outside. I always am trying to limit speaking Vietnamese and to use more english to practiced conversation to my sister while we are walking. My sister also is a Buddhist. She often eat vegetarian with me everyday. My sister's son usually plays table tennis to me in each weekend, too. Around neighbors are very friendly and politely. I feel very safe and happy when I live to them in San Jose.

I live in Santa Teresa. This is my uncle's house. The location is quiet, safe and friendly. My uncle has a little garden with some flower, some time I help him take care them. I like it, I'm interested in this work. At weekend, I usually go out for dinner with uncle's family. They are very kind to me so I really feel they are my new family. In addition, there are one brother and two sisters who are as old as me. It's easy to talk with them.
My home is near many markets such as Lucky, Walmart and specially Viet Nam. I can eat many Viet Nam food and remember my home country. It's convenient for me.
It take me 30 minutes to go to school by bus. Actually, I just spend 15 minutes to go there by car but I can not drive so I must use the bus. I 'll learn soon because I can save my time.
Thus, I feel comfortable when I live here. Maybe I'll spent more time in this place.

There are really quite because only one or two people is living each studios. My sister and I share everything. I like cooking except wash disehes. She is great of cooking but doesn't enjoy cooking and sh likes wash dishes. We can decide who does what. Actually we lice together when we were high school student. Our family was living in Bucheon but she went to go high school to the other city. When she was freshman at high school, she liced in dormitory. After that I went same school, we lived together for two years. Because of that we are very close and know each other pretty much. I truly love living with my sister.

Another roomer whose name is Tommas comes from Taiwan. He got the master degree of Electronics Engineer from University of Southern California. I don’t know where he is working in. My aunt has a daughter and two sons. The youngest son studies in Cupertino High School. The older son will study in University of California in Santa Cruz. He shares his room with me. My oldest cousin studies in De Anza. She stopped studying last semester, because she wants to get a break. Our house is near Stevens Creek, so I can take bus number 23 to SAL easily. Cupertino is a very convenient city for Chinese because there are a lot of Chinese super markets and restaurants. I very appreciate I can live with my aunt here because she take care me a lot. She makes me very comfortable while I’m studying in this foreign country.

Since I have never been to US, and have no relatives and friends here, live on campus should be the best choice. In this way, I can not only get to my classroom less than 5 minutes every day and also I can learn American culture because I have a native roommate named Paul, an ambitious and sensitive person. Paul likes reading bible and doing exercise. After Paul read bible we often have a chat with other two French guys in the living room. We share our culture with each other and have a good time. I can not imagine why Paul was good at playing table tennis, so we have a competition last week. Paul don’t know why I had played ping pang more than ten years, I told him ping pang is my country’s national sport like football and baseball in American. Besides, I was exited when I move in to my room first day because of beautiful views from my window near my bed.

1 week ago, I still lived with my host family at Santa Clara. But there were pretty far away to SJSU. I used to take almost 1.5 hours bus ride to go to school. That caused me a big inconvenient as the reason why I moved out there. Now, I live in San Jose downtown with the landlord and the other 6 roommates. Everyone is very friendly and quiet here that good for me to study. I pay $870 for the master room so I can have my private bathroom. Beside, I only take 15 minutes bus ride to school and there have 24 hour bus service around my house, that would be most convenient of me. I hope I can afford the rental for future 3 months to live here.
